He was a lyricist, film director, film actor, All India Radio producer, freedom fighter, early communist activist and journalist. He is remembered as a genius who has made significant contributions to the field of Malayalam music.

As a writer, Devi has authored numerous novels and books on mathematics and astrology. Shakuntala Devi discovered by mind the 23rd square of the 201 digit number. A group of mathematicians, journalists and students gathered at Imperial College London on 13 June 1980. Shakuntala Devi's computer suggested two thirteen numbers. 7,686,369,774,870, 2,465,099,745,779 and so on. It was the duty of Goddess Shakuntala to find out the multiplication of these by mental calculation. In twenty-eight seconds they reached the correct answer of 18,947,668,177,995,426,462,773,730. The incident is listed on page 26 of the 1995 Guinness Book of World Records
